The women’s soccer team lost 2-1 in overtime against the Harvard Crimson on Wednesday at Cumnock Turf in Cambridge.
The lone Huskies goal was scored by junior forward Liza Rebello. This goal was Rebello’s fourth of the season, which ties her goal total from last season. The goal was assisted by freshman forward Veronica Napoli.
The overtime goal was scored by Harvard’s Nicole Rhodes at 98:27. Erin Wylie had Harvard’s first goal of the day after she took a shot that skimmed the hands of goalkeeper Stephanie Gordon and managed to find the top of the net.
The Huskies were off to a slow start in the first half but halftime adjustments turned it around in the second for the Huskies who controlled play in the Harvard zone for most of the half. The Huskies Kelsey O’Rourke almost put the Huskies ahead but was called offside as she broke free.
In overtime Rebello and Kelly Matthews both had quality chances but their shots sailed just wide.
“It’s a little concerning to me that we don’t come out better in the first half,” said coach Ed Matz, “We had good pressure and ball movement in the second half and we really controlled the tempo but obviously you can’t win only playing one half.”
The Huskies take on Bryant on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Parsons Field.
