The Huskies defeated Bryant 3-1 on Sunday at Parsons Field. Northeastern trailed the Bulldogs going into halftime after Bryant’s Kalie Whitehouse scored on a shot that sailed just over Northeastern goalkeeper, Sarah Fylak’s head.
In the second half, Northeastern came out strong. They controlled most of the tempo and kept the majority of play in Bryant’s end of the field. At 49:14 Liza Rebello took a shot that went off the goalie, then the post and was loose around the net until Veronica Napoli was able to put it away. At 76:36, Napoli was again able to score for the Huskies after she turned up field and sprinted past the defenders before putting the ball in the back of the net. Napoli has three goals on the season and scored her first game-winning goal today.
Just three minutes later, Lesley Condie took a corner that found its way into the box where Brenna Matthews was able to dish a pass off to the charging Emilee Ellison who netted the Huskies third goal on the day. This was Ellison’s first goal of the season.
Although getting off to a slow start the Huskies had a few good chances to even the score up early. Napoli deflected a Bryant shot over to Rebello who then fed the ball back up to Napoli for a breakaway, however Napoli pulled up and tried to make a pass back over to Rebello when the play got broken up.
Northeastern returned to their old ways on Sunday out shooting their opponent 11-4.
Fylak who started her first game of the season on Sunday had one save on the day.
The Huskies take on Drexel Friday at 6 p.m. at Parsons Field. The game will be broadcasted on the web at GoNU.tv.
