The women’s soccer team defeated Drexel 3-2 in a very wet overtime on Saturday at Parsons Field. This win is the first conference win for the team and the fifth win on the season.
Freshman forward Veronica Napoli scored all three goals for the Huskies, which was also her first collegiate hat trick. Napoli was named the CAA Rookie of the Week this week after scoring two goals against Bryant last Sunday at Parsons Field. Napoli leads the team in both goals (6) and points (14).
The first goal was scored at 53:13 after Liza Rebello riffled a ball off the post which Napoli was then able to bury into the net. Drexel answered back seven minutes later when Aleka Yiantsos fired a high shot that found its way over goalkeeper Stephanie Gordon. Drexel took the lead at 64:56 after Caley Burke dribbled around the defense and beat Gordon on the left side. The Huskies had a few solid opportunities to even up the score. Napoli hit the crossbar on two different occasions and Gabbi Jatkola had a hard shot in the box which missed just wide. It was not until 87:21 that Jatkola passed the ball up to Napoli who dribbled around the goalie and evened the score at 2.
The Huskies made quick work of the Dragons in overtime. At just 1:44 into the first overtime, Napoli once again received a pass from Rebello, which she was able to net for her third on the day and the Huskies win.
The Huskies travel to Delaware on Sunday where they will take on the Blue Hens at 4 p.m. in the teams second CAA matchup of the weekend.
