The Northeastern women’s soccer team defeated Georgia State, 3-0 on Friday at Parsons Field. The Husky goals were scored by Jenna Lucchesi and two by Veronica Napoli. Goalkeeper Stephanie Gordon recorded 4 saves in her fourth shutout of the season.
Lucchesi was able to net her first goal of the season, the game-winner, at 56:48 in the second half on an assist from Brenna Matthews. Matthews was able to dribble the ball within the box before dishing a pass off to Lucchesi who blasted a shot past Panther goalkeeper Heidi Blankenship.
Napoli was able to net her team leading ninth goal of the season after Kirby Anderson was able to dance around two Panther defenders, crash the net and then dish the ball off to Napoli who has a chip shot pass the keeper at 81:59. That was Anderson’s first assist of the season.
Napoli would be at it again just seven minutes later as she was able to get the ball free from a Panther defender then fire a shot to the right side of the goal beating the diving Blankenship. That was Napoli’s 10th goal of the season.
The first half was mostly controlled by the Huskies. With 5:30 remaining in the firs Annika Hogberg set up Anderson in the slot but Anderson’s shot sailed just high. A minute later, Hogberg had a chance of her own when she tried to bicycle kick the ball which went right over the crossbar.
Stephanie Gordon had four saves on the night and recorded her fourth shutout.
The Huskies are back in action Sunday as they take on UNC Wilmington at 1 p.m. at Parsons Field. That game will be alumni and senior day for the Huskies.
