The women’s soccer team defeated UNC Wilmington 1-0 in the CAA quarterfinals on Tuesday. The lone Husky goal was scored by freshman midfielder Gabbi Jatkola.

Jatkola was able to break free from the defense and find enough time to fire a shot from at least 30 yards out which ricocheted off a Seahawks players head and into the top right hand corner for the first and only goal for the Huskies at 18:29 in the first half.

UNCW dominated play for most of the game, they outshot the Huskies 11-4 in the first half and 10-1 in the second half for a total of 21-5.

Goalkeeper Stephanie Gordon was spectacular in goal. Her aggressive style of play allowed very little opportunity for close shots throughout the game. In the second half, UNCW had four corner kicks in a row, each one stopped by Gordon and the Huskies. Gordon recorded nine saves on the night which brings her season total to 91 and recorded her sixth shutout. The save total ties Annie Petrofsky at ninth in the season goaltending records for Northeastern and the six shutouts ties Cynthia Slowik's record at third all-time in a season.

Although they allowed 21 shots, the Husky defense played outstanding breaking play after play as the Seahawk attack was relentless. Tinna Nielsen came up big in several situations as she was able to catch up and defend many of the UNCW’s big chances.

"This game was an exact opposite of the one we played earlier in the season. UNCW was all over us and thanks to our goalkeeper and defense we were able to pull one out. UNCW is a great program, and for us to get a win here is huge, our team bent tonight but we did not break." Said head coach Ed Matz. The Huskies have won their last three CAA games on the road for the first time in Northeastern women's soccer history.

Northeastern moves on to the semifinals against James Madison on Friday at 4:30p.m.
