Tinna Nielsen named Rookie of the Week
Oct. 22, 2007
Boston, MA

Freshman defender Tinna Nielsen was named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Nielsen was part of the Husky defense limited No. 28 James Madison to nine shots on goal in the Huskies 1-0 win Sunday.

The Hjoerring, Denmark native was up to the task of covering JMU’s leading scorers Cate Tisinger, Annie Lowry and Corky Julien. Late in the second half Nielsen went up to defend a cross from JMU’s Megan Deaver and took a knee to the back on her way down. She did not return to the game and will miss a few days of practice with pain in her back. She is expected to be back on the field Friday when the Huskies take on Delaware at 6 p.m. at Parsons Field.

Nielsen and the Huskies’ defense limited Virginia Commonwealth to five shots on goal in Friday’s rainy 1-0 loss. Nielsen also registered one of Northeastern’s five shots on goal against the Rams.

Nielsen has started all 15 games for the Huskies this season and has four shots on goal. She assisted Brenna Matthews’ goal in the 1-1 tie at New Hampshire Sept. 15 for her only point of the season.
