Huskies second after first day of CAA Championship April 20, 2007 Harrisonburg, VA

Northeastern scored 71 points in the first day of the Colonial Athletic Association Championship on Friday at James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va. The Huskies are in great position heading into the final day of the meet as they are behind only William & Mary (77 points) and ahead of UNC Wilmington (42), Delaware (28), James Madison (18), Towson (13), Georgia State (11), Virginia Commonwealth (9) and George Mason (4).
The performance of the day came from senior Zara Northover. Northover started the day with a seventh-place finish in the javelin, then moved over to the throwing circle and won the hammer and the discus. She will try to defend her CAA title in the shot put on Saturday.
Tramaine Shaw won the long jump with a leap of 19'11.75 and posted the fastest times of the day in both the 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles. She will be joined in the 100 hurdles finals by Aquila Williams-Judge.
Also putting in excellent performances and taking home points on the first day of the CAA Championship were Nancy Rowe and Colleen Sorensen, who went 2-3 in the javelin, Olivia Kalinowska, who took second in the pole vault, and Kristie Gagnon, who posted a Northeastern record while placing third in the 10,000.
The meet resumes on Saturday morning, beginning with the women's shot put, at 10 a.m.
