Huskies win CAA Championship
With two events remaining to be scored, Northeastern was behind William & Mary, 153-149. But the Huskies prevailed in the final two events as the 4x400 relay of Tramaine Shaw, DaviAnn Brown, Shanae Henry and Amber Gibney finished second and Consandria Walker placed third in the triple jump.
Northeastern was led in the field events by senior Zara Northover and in the track events by Shaw, a junior. Northover was named CAA Field Athlete of the Year after winning the shot put, discus, hammer and placing seventh in the javelin. Her winning throw of 53'2.25 in the shot put broke the CAA Championship record, which Northover set last year. Shaw won the 100 hurdles, 400 hurdles, long jump and ran the lead-off leg of the runner-up 4x400 relay. Her winning time of 13.71 in the 100 hurdles broke her Northeastern record of 13.74 from 2005 and broke the CAA Championship record of 13.73 set by George Mason's Renea Jordan in 1997.
Another key event for Northeastern was the second-to-last track event, the 3000-meter steeplechase. Typically a strong event for William & Mary, Northeastern's Kristie Gagnon placed fourth and Laura McCloskey placed fifth to earn the Huskies nine points. Gagnon was coming back from the 10,000 on Friday night, when she placed third in a Northeastern record of 37:14.86. Northeastern also got key points on the track in the 800-meter, as Gibney placed second, Natalee Pennicooke took fourth and Erin Ballard placed seventh.
Behind Shaw in the hurdles, Aquila Williams-Judge placed sixth in the 100 hurdles and Brown placed third in the 400 hurdles. On Friday night in the pole vault, Olivia Kalinowska placed second, Dara Samuel tied for fourth, Brooke Borso took sixth and Kristen Hafford took seventh. In the javelin on Friday, Nancy Rowe took second and Colleen Sorensen took third. Ashley Wilson placed third in the heptathlon.

Harrisonburg, VAThe Huskies' women's track & field team became the first Northeastern University team to win a Colonial Athletic Association Championship on Saturday when the team won the title at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. Northeastern scored 163 points to edge William & Mary (156). Georgia State finished third (116) followed by UNC Wilmington (102), James Madison (98), George Mason (64), Delaware (59), Towson (43) and Virginia Commonwealth (19).
