Northeastern sat in third position with 29 points after the first day of the Colonial Athletic Association Championship on Friday in Williamsburg, Va. Host William & Mary led the meet with 72 points and James Madison was second with 33.
In finals events, junior Nancy Rowe was the Huskies' top finisher, placing second in the javelin with a toss of 142'2. Colleen Sorenson took seventh in the javelin. In the hammer, freshman Althea Charles took fifth.
Junior Kristie Gagnon took third in the 10,000-meter. She led the first half of the race before yielding the lead to William & Mary's Emily Gousen. She then battled with a pack of four other runners and ended up third in 37:17.32.
Senior Tramaine Shaw had a great performance, winning her heats in both the 100 hurdles (13.79) and 400 hurdles (1:00.84) to qualify for Saturday's finals. She also took fifth in the long jump. Junior transfer Katherine Sherman won her heat of the 400 hurdles in 1:03.60 and qualified for the finals in the 100 hurdles.
Sophomore Consandria Walker took fourth in the long jump and qualified for the finals of the 100 with her time of 12.04. Freshman Porshe Giddings qualified for the finals with her performances in both the 100-meter (11.85) and 200-meter (24.52).
In the middle distance preliminaries, Brittany Moriarty was an automatic qualifier in the 1,500 with a time of 4:42.58 and Seri Gordon and Christi Gallagher both qualified for the finals of the 800-meter, running 2:13.14 and 2:15.18, respectively.
The meet resumes on Saturday beginning with the 110 hurdles in the men's decathlon at 9 a.m. on Saturday at William & Mary's Zable Stadium.
