Giddings named CAA Track Athlete of the Week

Northeastern University freshman Porshe Giddings of the women’s track & field team, was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday. Giddings won both the 100-meter and 200-meter last Saturday at the Seahawk Invitational in Wilmington, N.C. She was also a member of the runner-up 4x100 relay team.

William & Mary’s Katie Guevel was selected CAA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week and UNC Wilmington’s Ernest Asante and Bruce Smith were named CAA Men’s Track and Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, respectively.

Giddings ran a time of 12.10 in the 100-meter dash and 24.76 in the 200-meter dash at the Seahawk Invitational at UNC Wilmington. Both races were run into a headwind. She also ran on the Huskies’ runner-up 4x100 relay along with Consandria Walker, Tramaine Shaw and Serena Allen. The relay team ran an excellent time of 46.64.

The Seahawk Invitational was the first meet of the outdoor track & field season for Northeastern. Giddings is coming off an indoor season in which she placed third in the 55-meter and 200-meter and ran on Northeastern’s winning 4x400 relay at the New England Championship. Giddings is from Orange, N.J. and attended East Orange Campus High School.

This Saturday, Northeastern hosts the Husky Spring Open at Solomon Track starting at 10 a.m. The Huskies compete in several other outdoor meets before running in the CAA Championship April 18-19 at William & Mary.
