Nikiya Reid, a native of Trenton, N.J., has been elected to the Northeastern University Hall of Fame for excellence in the sport of track. Reid, Class of 2002, will be inducted along with six others in formal cermonies at Lombardo’s Restaurant in Randolph, Mass., on April 18.
Between 1998 and 2001, Reid became one of the supreme track stars in New England. She amassed 19 individual titles in the America East Championships and 12 in the New Englands.
She came to Northeastern from Trenton Central High School in Trenton, N.J., where she was a four-year member of the cross country, indoor and outdoor track teams. She was Team MVP all four years and earned numerous All-County and All-State honors.
At the America East indoor championship her freshman year, Reid finished the 55-meter hurdles in record-breaking time. She completed her freshman season by winning both the 100-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash in the outdoor championship. The Huskies won both the indoor and outdoor America East titles.
In her sophomore season, Reid again won the hurdles at the America East indoors and added the 200-meter to win the Outstanding Performer Award. At the indoor New England’s, she won both the hurdles and the 200. During the outdoor season, she won the 100 hurdles and the 200 at both America East and the New England’s.
In her junior season, Reid won the dash, the hurdles and the 200 and was named Outstanding Performer at America East indoors. At the outdoor championship, she won the 100, the 200 and the 100 hurdles. Combined, this earned her America East Performer of the Year. At the New England Championships, she won the hurdles and 200 indoors and the 100, 200 and 100 hurdles outdoors.
In her senior season, she captained both teams. Indoors, she won the hurdles for the fourth year in a row, the 200 for the third year in a row and was selected the America East Outstanding Performer for the third year in a row. Outdoors, she took the 200 and 100 hurdles for the fourth time and the 100-meter dash for the second straight time.
For the second consecutive season, she was honored as the America East Performer of the Year. In the Indoor New England’s, she won the 200 and the hurdles for the third straight year and the dash for the second year in a row. Reid graduated with five Northeastern records and six America East Championship records.
Reid resides in Hamilton, N.J., and is in charge of client service at the Regus Business Center.
Joining Reid in NU’s Hall of Fame Class of 2008 will be Vincent Barletta (rowing), Anders Hoeyem (soccer) Harry Mews (ice hockey), Roger Pierce (track & field), Brooke Whitney (women’s ice hockey) and Kelly Wilk (field hockey).
